1. The scope of use of S7-plcSIM
(1) Simulation range
The simulation of S7-PLCSIM can be carried out in the following ranges:
Total number of I/O points: maximum 16KB (131072 points);
Internal flag register M points: maximum 16KB (131072 points);
Timer: TO~T511;
The total number of logical blocks and data blocks: the maximum number of FC and FB is 2048; the maximum DB is 4095;
System block: the vast majority of SFC;
System function block: the vast majority of SFB;
System organization block: the vast majority of OBs.
(2) The difference between simulation and actual operation Using S7-PLCSIM simulation software for simulation, it can't be completely equivalent to the actual PLC. When using it, it should be noted that it has the following differences with the actual PLC running process:
1 The program execution process of the simulated PLC allows the program to be run by "pause", single scan, successive scan, etc., which is usually not possible in the actual PLC;
2 When the simulated PLC is stopped or paused by the operation, the state of the simulation output will not be changed. In the actual PLC, all the output results will be set to "0" (enter I/O safe mode);
3 The timer of the simulated PLC can be controlled by manual reset, but the manual operation of the timer cannot be performed in the actual PLC;
4 In the simulation PLC, it is not possible to simulate the alarm actions that may occur in the actual PLC such as “battery alarm†or “memory alarmâ€:
5 The CPU of the simulated PLC does not automatically recognize the function of the I/O module. The hardware configuration must be completed before the simulation and downloaded to the simulation PLC.
(3) Functional limitations of the simulation In addition, the current S7-PLCSIM simulation software is also subject to the following functional limitations in terms of use:
1S7-PLCSIM cannot simulate the actual diagnostic information in a few PLC systems:
2S7-PLCSIM simulation software does not currently support special function modules (FM);
The 3S7-PLCSIM simulation software can only simulate a single CPU system at present, and it cannot support the multi-CPU system and the PLC network system and network communication functions.
For PLC programs involving the above control requirements and actions, the correctness of the program cannot be judged by simulation.
2. Installation requirements
S7-PLCSIM can be installed in a programmer or personal computer with the following operating system:
- a programmer with STEP7 Lite V2.0 installed;
- a personal computer with Windows XP installed;
- A programmer or PC with PCS7 V6.0 installed.
3. The installation of the software in the STEP7 Professional programming software already includes the S7-PLCSIM simulation software, no need to install the simulation software; however, in the STEP7 Basis V5.2 Standard Edition software, the S7-PLCSIM software needs to be installed separately. For users who use the standard version of the software, S7-PLCSIM is an option for STEP7 and the user needs to be authorized to use it.
The installation process of S7-PLCSIM is very simple, just follow the instructions of the installation wizard one by one.
After the software installation is completed, S7-PLCSIM is automatically embedded in STEP7 programming, and at the same time, in the window toolbar display of the SIMATIC Manager (SIMATICManager), the "Simulate ON/OFF" button (Fig. 14-3.1) The button pointed by the mouse will also be in a valid state.
You can open the S7-PLCSIM software via the SIMATIC Manager main menu "Options" - "Simulate Modes" in Figure 14-3.1 or by directly clicking the " Simulate ON/OFF" button.
