In order to ensure the normal use of the computer network in the teaching process, the laboratory purchased a core switch and 4 access layer switches to solve the problems of high bandwidth and large throughput in the network. However, the increase of switches has not changed the status quo: (1) every time system maintenance and data transmission on the network, the speed is slow; (2) the client access to the LAN server is slow; (3) the student Internet speed is slow. The above phenomenon not only brings maintenance difficulties to managers, but also severely discourages students' interest in learning computer courses, which brings new challenges to the management of computer labs. In order to solve these problems, this paper proposes a Trunk technology, and practical application in the core switch of the computer laboratory.
1 Trunk technology introduction
Trunk is the meaning of port aggregation, that is, by configuring software settings, two or more physical ports are combined into a logical path, thereby increasing the bandwidth between the switch and the network node, which will belong to these ports Bandwidth merging provides ports with an exclusive high bandwidth several times that of independent ports.
Trunk is a kind of encapsulation technology. It is a point-to-point link. Both ends of the link may be switches, switches or routers, or hosts and core switches or routers. Based on the port aggregation (Trunk) function, it allows switches and switches, switches and routers, hosts and switches or routers to connect and transmit in parallel through two or more ports to provide higher bandwidth, greater throughput, and Improve the performance of the entire network.
In general, when no trunk is used, the characteristics of this transmission medium of the twisted pair of 100M Ethernet determine that the bandwidth of the two common 10/100 switches is only 100 MHz. If full duplex mode is used , The maximum bandwidth of transmission can reach 200 MHz, thus forming a network backbone and server bottleneck.
To achieve a higher data transmission rate, you need to replace the transmission medium, use Gigabit fiber or upgrade to Gigabit Ethernet, so that although it can reach Gigabit in bandwidth, but the cost is very expensive (maybe even the switch needs to be replaced together ), Not suitable for low-cost SMEs and schools. Using Trunk technology, the bandwidth of 800 MHz can be achieved by bundling the four ports together, which solves the contradiction between cost and performance.
2 The practical application of Trunk
There are many brands of network equipment on the market, which basically support Trunk technology. The computer laboratory of our school purchased 5024 GM (X5) core switches and 1024 GT / GTF access switches from Jinlang. The actual use of technology.
2.1 Set the trunk function of the access switch
Move the function switch on the switch panel such as 1024GT / 1024GTF as the access switch to the "diskless aggregation" position, which will take effect after restart. At this time, the 23/24 port of 1024GT / GTF is the Trunk port by default (these two ports must be used at the same time), and it needs to be connected to the corresponding Trunk port of the core switch that has been set up according to the port number.
2.2 Connection line
Connect to the network according to the following topology and wiring:
(1) Ports 1 and 2 of X5 are respectively connected to ports 23 and 24 of No. 1 1024GT / GTF;
(2) Ports 3 and 4 of X5 are respectively connected to ports 23 and 24 of No. 2 1024GT / GTF;
(3) Ports 5 and 6 of X5 are connected to ports 23 and 24 of No. 3 1024GT / GTF respectively;
(4) Ports 7 and 8 of X5 are connected to ports 23 and 24 of No. 4 1024GT / GTF, respectively.
Other switches and so on. The specific connection line is shown in Figure 1.
2.3 Set the trunk group of the main switch
On the main switch interface, set up 4 trunk groups according to the topology diagram, which are 1, 2, 3, and 4 trunk groups (each group contains two ports), respectively: (1) Trunk-1: ports 1 and 2 , Set in "Trunk Configuration-Port Aggregation Configuration"; (2) Trunk-2: Ports 3 and 4; (3) Trunk-3: Ports 5 and 6; (4) Trunk-4: Ports 7 and 8 port. Finally, save the switch configuration. The specific setting of the trunk group of the main switch is shown in Figure 2.
The application of Trunk technology in the computer laboratory improves the quality of experimental teaching and work efficiency, and ensures the stability of the teaching place. This technology has been used in the laboratory of the Computer Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Hubei Automobile Industry College for 3 years. The operation is stable and reliable, and the effect is good.
