Power Integrations today announced that it is available in the eSIPTM-7F (L package) LinkSwitch-PH LED driver IC with a package height of only 2 mm. This new package is designed for LED replacement lamps for fluorescent tubes (only ultra-thin packages can fit into very small spaces behind LED boards) and other applications where board height is limited.
The LinkSwitch-PH device in a 2 mm L package has the same thermal and electrical performance as the previously published 10 mm high eSIP-7C (E package) IC. An electrically quiet (source) heat transfer tab is designed on top of the new L-package device, so adding any heat sink will not cause electrical noise to propagate.
Power Integrations' LinkSwitch-PH family of single-stage, primary-side control LED driver ICs have >90% efficiency and >0.9 power factor. The innovative topology eliminates unreliable high-capacity electrolytic capacitors and opto-isolators, making the device ideal for industrial, commercial, and outdoor solid-state lighting (SSL) applications that require high reliability. The LinkSwitch-PH IC-based SSL driver ballast is designed for 4 W to 55 W power supplies and easily meets ENERGY STAR® and EN61000-3-2 class C and D requirements.
Power Integrations said that a similar T8 power solution would be completely filled into the tube, leaving a few inches of black spots on one end of the tube, sometimes with black spots on both ends. PI's new ultra-thin L package enables the power supply to be placed behind the LED PCB board, and the space in front of the PCB can be left for the LEDs. This allows the entire lamp to emit uniform light, which enhances the aesthetics of the lamp and significantly improves light distribution.
Samples of the LinkSwitch-PH in the L package are available now, priced at $1.01 each based on 10,000-piece quantities.
