On February 2, 2012, Samsung and Corning jointly established a joint venture to produce a series of new special glass substrates for new OLED products. The new joint venture, based in South Korea, will combine Samsung's expertise in OLED display technology with Corning's Lotus glass technology to provide a stronger, more durable display for Samsung's mobile devices and the entire Korean market.
With Super AMOLED display panels and some derivatives, Samsung has launched several OLED TVs and demonstrated them at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Corning's new Lotus glass substrate offers "higher processing temperatures and improved multi-directional stability for better performance displays."
The joint venture will help Samsung extend its new display technology to more mobile devices and use Corning's tempered glass substrates to protect such displays.
