Amers Semiconductor Introduces Noise Cancelling Headphone Technology Based on Four Segments of 3.5mm Audio Interface

The first-to-market accessory communication interface (ACI) helps to miniaturize noise-cancelling headphones while supporting sensor, LED and display functions.

Recently, the leading manufacturer of high-performance sensor solutions, Ams AG (Swiss Stock Exchange: AMS), today announced the launch of a noise-reduction headphone technology based on a four-segment 3.5mm audio jack. No battery running.

The new communication accessory interface (ACI) invented by Amers Semiconductor uses a microphone (MIC) line in a standard 3.5 mm audio cable to provide power and bidirectional data transmission at 16 Mbit/sec with digital audio signals. By using the Amers Semiconductor ACI solution to remove the battery from the headset, manufacturers can significantly reduce the size, weight and material cost of the accessory using a common and robust 3.5mm audio interface.

The new features offered by Amers Semiconductor's ACI technology make the 3.5mm interface we know more than ever before. Active Noise Reduction (ANC) headphones using ACI technology can not only reduce the noise at the receiving end (Rx), but also reduce the noise at the transmitting end (Tx), which can significantly improve the audio quality during voice calls. Products can be enhanced with sensors that are used on headphones, such as gesture recognition, proximity sensing, heart rate measurement, temperature sensing, and other features. In addition, displays or special light effects can be added to the headset to provide innovative opportunities for differentiation.

Amers Semiconductor's 3.5mm audio solution consumes 60% less power than the USB type-c system, minimizing battery drain. Compared to the USB type-c system, the ACI system requires fewer components and lower system cost, enabling manufacturers to afford bundled sales of noise-cancelling headphones and mobile phones. In addition, the system is also compatible with traditional headphones without ACI technology.

By eliminating the dedicated battery for 3.5mm noise-cancelling headphones, Amers Semiconductor's new ACI technology gives OEMs the opportunity to rethink their product designs. ChrisTIan Feierl, Marketing Manager of Amers Semiconductor, said: "OEMs can not only make headsets smaller, lighter and more convenient. With the addition of sensors, LEDs or displays, headsets will have more features to help differentiate products. ."
