The first batch of Snapdragon 835 Qualcomm vr one machine will be unveiled in the second half

As early as last year, Qualcomm has the news of entering VR. As the leader of global wireless technology, Qualcomm will launch its first VR head Snapdragon VR820 in 2017. Recently, Qualcomm announced that its VR all-in-one is expected to be launched in the second half of this year.

Qualcomm's latest VRDK head display is a reference design, the company has positioned itself as a consumer electronics manufacturer, based on Qualcomm's Opteron series VR hardware, to create its own head display. Now, they are already working with other partners, and the first consumer-grade head-up is expected to be launched in the second half of 2017.

Qualcomm's latest VRDK is built on the company's new Snapdragon 835 chip. Although the Snapdragon 835 is also suitable for a range of mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, the company said the chip is also built specifically for VR.

In order to express its determination in the development of VR technology, Qualcomm has formed the "HMD Accelerator Program", which aims to "reduce the impact of resource constraints on the rapid commercialization of VR HMD." Basically, Qualcomm wants to use its expertise to help companies build their own VR heads. This is similar to Intel's Project Alloy.

The fundamentals of the HMD Accelerator program are based on the VRDK of the Snapdragon 835, from the inside out tracking technology, 90Hz 2560&TImes; 1440 AMOLED display, 100 degree field of view, 4GB RAM, eye tracking and hand tracking (via Leap MoTIon's new Mobile sensor). But VRDK itself will not be sold, at least not by Qualcomm (note that VRDK is only an experience version, and the consumer version is ready for sale in the second half of the year).

The consumer version of the VR all-in-one may have some "in and out" with the VRDK, but both are built on Qualcomm's hardware and underlying technology. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) will save which hardware and features will be selected from the VRDK, and may add some "features" of their own.

The company also plans to distribute the VRDK to content creators to motivate the ecosystem of applications that are specifically built for VRDK. These headsets are expected to be sold to developers in the second quarter of 2017.
