Renesas Electronics Expands Renesas SynergyTM Platform and Delivers Unprecedented Software Quality Levels

New Synergy software package v1.2.0, Synergy Wi-Fi software framework and new Synergy S5D9 MCU product group at the Nuremberg International Embedded Application Exhibition and Seminar

From March 14th to 16th, Renesas Electronics exhibited several demonstrations at the Embedded Application Exhibition and Seminar in Nuremberg (Hall 104, Stand #4), highlighting the update of the Synergy platform solution.

Synergy is a complete embedded development platform that leverages the complete software framework built around the industry-leading Express Logic X-WareTM to enable system development directly from the application development interface (API). This software framework, SSP, is licensed, maintained, and supported and warranted by Renesas Electronics, freeing developers from the repetitive work of creating and maintaining the underlying software for each embedded project. The Synergy platform also includes a variety of scalable MCUs based on the ARM® Cortex®-M core that provide full access to MCU resources through software APIs. The industry-leading IAR Embedded Workbench® development toolchain with intuitive configuration assistance, along with hardware kits for development and solutions.

SSP v1.2.0 and documented software quality

For any product with an embedded MCU, software quality is the key to its life cycle. To ensure that SSPs have reliable quality for production use, Renesas Electronics follows the documented and audited SQA process and follows the established ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207 international standards (covering the entire SSP Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)). The SSP was developed.

The SQA process includes static and dynamic testing of SSPs using more than 8,000 test cases per day to ensure:

• 100% test coverage for all code statements, branches, and jumps

• Meets Renesas Electronic Programming Specification and MISRA C:2012 mandatory requirements

• Low code complexity for good readability, testability and maintainability

• Programming behavior meets requirements

• Clean software builds, no warnings, no errors

The SSP will only be released if all of the above criteria are met. Renesas is the first company in the MCU industry to perform and document such testing at the embedded platform level.

Starting with SSP version 1.2.0, Renesas Electronics will release SQA processes, tests and test results each time an SSP minor release is released. The publicly available resources include the Synergy Software Quality Manual, which describes the entire SDLC process, and the Synergy Software Quality Summary Report, which lists the results of the certification test. Customers can also obtain other detailed SQA documentation and test artifacts if they sign the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). This document will greatly reduce the time and effort required for customers to certify their own processes from a quality perspective and document them.

Synergy Wi-Fi Application Framework

Integrating wireless connectivity into embedded systems is challenging and requires a wide range of support and documentation to successfully implement, such as Wi-Fi chipset or module manufacturers, software protocol providers, and even development tool vendors. The Synergy Wi-Fi application framework eliminates these barriers for application developers.

The Synergy Wi-Fi Application Framework provides hardware abstraction through a unified set of APIs for universal Wi-Fi functionality, independent of the Wi-Fi hardware used. As a result, developers can quickly evaluate and add Wi-Fi technology from different vendors without having to make adjustments to their applications based on different APIs.

Customers can access the Synergy Wi-Fi Application Framework and device drivers supported on the Synergy Gallery. Currently, the framework supports the Longsys GT202 Wi-Fi module using the QCA4002 chipset. Additional Wi-Fi chipset and module support will be added to Synergy Gallery in the coming months.

Synergy S5D9MCU product group

The Synergy S5D9 MCU product group is the first in the Synergy S5 family to deliver the performance, functionality and security features required for embedded and IoT applications. With solutions from SSP and Renesas Electronics partners, developers will be able to establish a unique root of trust on each MCU to enable a chain of trust from manufacturing to access deployment products. Specific features of these MCUs include the 120 MHz ARM® Cortex®-M4 MCU core, up to 2MB of on-chip flash and 640 KB of SRAM, TFT-LCD controller, precision analog acquisition interface, Ethernet interface and Hi-Speed ​​USB. Professional on-chip security features include the ability to generate and securely store keys used by symmetric and asymmetric encryption technologies, the True Random Number Generator (TRNG), and special memory protection features.
