When businesses and consumers use more and more connected devices, allowing only connections to known and legitimate devices is critical to the security of any system. By integrating the OPTIGA Trust P into their designs, electronics manufacturers have added reliable security to their embedded systems.
OPTIGA Trust P generates and securely stores encryption keys for one-way and two-way authentication, preventing devices from being compromised by malware and controlling access mechanisms for secure software updates. The programmability of the OPTIGA Trust P makes it a highly flexible solution that makes these features suitable for a wide range of interconnected systems. Any product used to store and exchange confidential data—whether for smart homes or factories—can rely on the encrypted communication capabilities of OPTIGA Trust P for information privacy. This helps defend against attackers who attempt to obtain personal or corporate data, or attempt to tamper with programming via an Internet connection or wireless communication between devices (M2M).
“The new product line launched by OPTIGA Trust goes beyond brand protection to combat counterfeit electronic devices that harm ordinary people and businesses,†said Juergen Spaenkuch, vice president and head of platform security at Infineon Technologies. "It helps to protect industrial electronic systems from the risk of being destroyed, provides secure updates to software, and enhances security by providing access control to evolving interconnected systems such as the Internet of Things (IoT)."
OPTIGATM Trust P features
OPTIGA Trust P is a secure trust anchor that addresses counterfeit, confidentiality and security concerns and is Certified by Common Criteria EAL 5+ (High). It uses public key cryptography to support one-way and two-way authentication of anti-cloning applications. Onboard key generation, key storage, and secure key exchange enable the creation of a secure communication channel and encryption of transmitted data, providing data privacy and information verification between the sender and the recipient. Integrated key management and access control provide protection by extending the use of secure channels, including allowing secure remote updates and local access restrictions on devices.
As a programmable device, the OPTIGA Trust P is extremely flexible and can be easily integrated into existing systems. It includes a JavaCard operating system for running security programs that can be configured to meet the specific needs of the system. Most of the common features, host code, and development tools provided by Infineon's JavaCard security program minimize development effort.
Product data, practicality
The OPTIGA Trust P SLJ 52ACA certified chip is available in a VQFN-32 (5mm x 5mm) package with 150 kB of memory. It can run JavaCard OS, support ECC, RSA, AES, TDES and SHA encryption. The system interface is ISO7816 UART (data rate is 400 kbps).
