Facebook acquired Oculus for $2 billion, and Google has invested $1.4 billion in Magic Leap. Microsoft, HTC/Valve, Sony, Samsung and other giants are also in the AR/VR circle.

2016 is the first year of VR, market research company IDC expects that global virtual reality equipment shipments will exceed 9 million units in 2016, much higher than last year's more than 350,000 units. IDC said that this high-speed growth is partly due to the gradual launch of the first consumer-oriented virtual reality products. However, the biggest sales will be "no-screen" virtual reality products, which use smartphones as displays.

IDC expects that the total sales of Oculus, HTC and Sony's virtual reality devices will be approximately 2 million units in 2016.

Another well-known research company, Forrester Research, released the AR and VR industry reports, which published the AR and VR device rankings. Unexpectedly, the Oculus Rift did not enter the top five of the list. HTC Vive, Microsoft HoloLens, Sensic's OSVR, APX Labs' Skylight, and Marxent are among the top five. Although Oculus is considered to be the leader in virtual reality, HTC is even better. HTC Vive has dedicated handles, front-facing cameras and base stations to provide users with a virtual reality experience throughout the room.
