LG Display Co., the world's second-largest liquid crystal display (LCD) producer, said on Friday that it would team up with two Taiwanese companies to form a $30 million joint venture in Suzhou, China.
The company said it will form a joint venture with Taiwan's Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd. (2393.TW) and Amtran Technology Co. (2489.TW) for backlighting of flat panel displays. The group provides a light-emitting diode (LED) package.
LG Display said in a statement that the joint venture will be commissioned by the end of this year. LG Display and Ruixuan Technology will each hold 20% of the joint venture company, and Yiguang Electronics will hold the remaining 60%.
LG Display also said that through close cooperation in design and component development, the joint venture will become another stable and competitive LED component supplier. LG Display expects the joint venture to strengthen the company's strength in the LED-backlit LCD market.
