Catalyst Boost LED Drivers Named Hot Products

Catalyst Semiconductor announced that the CAT4201, 7-watt boost LED driver has been selected as the hottest product of EDN Magazine in 2007. The CAT4201 was selected as one of nine popular products in the "Power Semiconductors and ICs" category.

The CAT4201 7-Watt Boost LED Driver provides a smaller and more efficient "green" product than linear regulators commonly used to control high-brightness lighting applications.

Scott Brown, vice president of marketing at Catalyst Semiconductor, said the CAT4201 7-watt boost LED driver was honored for being among the hottest products of EDN Magazine in 2007. EDN receives hundreds of products every year and we are delighted that our first boost LED driver products can be selected by their editors.

Maury Wright, editorial director of EDN magazine, said that our editorial team reports on new products every day and we see a lot of valuable products. Looking back over the past year and selecting products that we think have a major impact on design engineers.

About CAT4201 LED Driver

The CAT4201 is the first product in the family of buck converters with a patent pending by Catalyst – a new switch control algorithm. This new architecture reduces system complexity and increases efficiency by allowing an external RSET control resistor to regulate LED currents up to 350mA at up to 24V supply, providing better control of the inductor and eliminating the need for a special thermal design. In buck-type high-brightness LED driver applications, the CAT4201 step-down converter offers the advantages of a simpler and smaller footprint than a linear regulator, while eliminating heat sinks. In addition, the built-in overload protection safely handles instantaneous 40V voltages, making it ideal for automotive instrumentation and lighting, including turn signals, braking systems and map reading lighting.
