The output of the tube amp is divided into two types, the current products (including DIY works) only have transformer output and capacitor output (OTL). Although the transformer output is sweet in mid-frequency, the frequency extension at both ends is not enough, so there are more dislikes among fans than happy ones. The capacitor output method removes the transformer, so that the frequency response has been broadened to a certain extent, and has been recognized by many headphone enthusiasts. The two gallblade amps of the WG series are in the form of cathode capacitor output. Of course, there are other methods of capacitor output. Amp.
In the OTL circuit, the output capacitor plays the role of blocking DC and transmitting AC signals, and the lower the frequency of the signal you need to transmit, the larger this capacitor will be. For example, under an 8 ohm load, to obtain a flat response of a 20 Hz signal, this capacitor needs to use more than 4000 microfarads.
This capacitor used to block DC and transmit AC signals is a little bit selective. The electrolytic capacitor has a thin dielectric film. Under the same volume, the capacitance will be much larger than the BBC capacitor, and its coiled inductance is also smaller than BBC. But the dielectric loss is great. The BBC capacitor uses a polymer film. Although the dielectric loss is small, it is much thicker than the electrolytic film of the electrolytic capacitor. That is to say, if you want to make a capacitor with the same capacity as the electrolytic capacitor, the BBC capacitor needs to be wound more. Floor. This not only increases its volume, but more importantly, the resulting coil inductance cannot be ignored because it increases the phase distortion of the output signal. So some people use electrolytic capacitors and BBC capacitors together.
But no matter what kind of capacitor you use, it is ultimately a bottleneck to further improve sound quality. Therefore, modern stone machine amplifiers and amps no longer use OTL circuits, and have become all-in-one DC drives (that is, DC drives, commonly known as OCL). So that the technical indicators and sound quality have been significantly improved. This is not only a consensus, but also an indisputable fact.
As a result, new thinking about OTL bile duct amps is: Why don't we clip this output capacitor and make it a DC drive to further improve the sound quality of the amp?
