STMicroelectronics Introduces New Set-Top Box Chip STiH205

21ic News STMicroelectronics (ST) further expanded its product portfolio to introduce the new STiH205 set-top box chip. The new products will open up new applications, including the industry's smallest pay-TV encryption set-top box. The system-on-chip (SoC) solution is available in a 23x23mm micro package that minimizes board space and manufacturing costs, making it easy for manufacturers to design miniature two-layer boards for IP set-top boxes and broadcast set-top boxes.

STMicroelectronics' new microchip brings an unparalleled TV experience

ST's existing STiH207 series is a system-on-chip solution for terrestrial, cable, satellite and IP HD set-top boxes, and the introduction of the STiH205 further complements the product line. The new product's software is compatible with the latest STiH207 and the widely used STi7105 series, enabling customers to quickly migrate existing software across platforms and expand or upgrade the product platform with minimal development costs. The STiH205 continues this theme for low-cost and small footprint applications such as HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) TV sticks.

Laurent Remont, vice president and general platform product division of STMicroelectronics, said: "At present, customers can only trade at the expense of advanced secure content transmission in exchange for the smallest product size. The introduction of STiH205 allows customers to no longer compromise on security issues. ”

The STiH205 reduces the size and cost of the final device and delivers 30-50% better performance than the previous generation STi7105. It will provide end users with smaller, more affordable portable set-top boxes that can enjoy TV broadcasts and OTT (network multimedia transmission) anytime, anywhere. )service.

The main features of STiH205:

• BGA 23x23 mm package

• Integrated 256KB Level 2 Cache

• Integrated standby controller

• Integrated Ethernet PHY

• Excellent video quality (picture zoom technology, deinterlacing, image quality enhancement technology)

• Support multiple coexistence technologies at the same time, do not interfere with each other, and do not compromise on security issues

• Support for low frequency LMI (Local Memory Interface) to further reduce the cost and power consumption of some applications.

Samples of the STiH205 are available and are expected to be in volume production in January 2013.

The STiH205 will be on display during the International Transmission and Coverage Seminar (ICTC) Exhibition in Hangzhou from October 31st to November 2nd, 2012. Welcome to the STMicroelectronics booth (B-a, Baima Lake International Convention and Exhibition Center) Booth).
