Cree Introduces XLamp® XP-E2 LED Light Efficiency by 20%

Shanghai, China, September 21, 2012 - Clarion (Nasdaq: CREE ), a market leader in LED lighting, today announced the release of XLamp® XP-E2 LEDs with existing XLamp® XP-E LEDs and XLamp® XP- Compared to G LEDs, it offers higher luminous efficiency and higher lm/$, further reducing system cost. Based on the predecessor XLamp® XP-E LED design, the new XLamp® XP-E2 LEDs can boost lumen output at the same cost and power, while enabling a lower number of LED devices for lower system cost. This helps lighting manufacturers to obtain better lighting systems and minimize redesign.
Erik Milz, vice president of marketing at Terralux, said: "Value for money is an important consideration in the design of our products. Many of our current products are based on XLamp® XP-E LEDs, and the new XLamp® XP-E2 LEDs offer significant performance improvements. Can help us accelerate the time to market for new solutions while reducing design costs."
The XLamp® XP-E2 LED is available in the same package size as the XP Series (3.45mm x 3.45mm) and is optically compatible with all XP LED designs including XLamp® XP-E LEDs and XLamp® XP-G LEDs. XLamp® XP-E2 LEDs are used in a wide range of applications from indoor and outdoor lighting to portable lighting and replacement lighting.
XLamp® XP-E2 LED
The XLamp® XP-E2 LED is based on Cree's revolutionary SC3 TechnologyTM next-generation LED platform. At cool white light (6000K), 350 mA and 85 °C, the luminous efficiency is up to 128 lm/W. At cool white light (6000K), 350 mA and 25 °C, the light efficiency is up to 143 lm/W. SC3 Technology's next-generation LED platform uses Cree's industry-leading silicon carbide (SiC) technology to demonstrate superior performance in LED chip structure and fluorescence conversion, and to match the latest packaging technology to provide the industry's most advanced LED device.
ENERGY STAR®-certified luminaire manufacturers are expected to receive parameters and performance data, including LM-80 reports, to speed time-to-market. The XLamp® XP-E2 LED is a follow-on upgrade to the XLamp® XP-E LED and provides LM-80 data. Based on LM-80 data, it only takes 3,000 hours instead of the usual 6,000 hours to help speed up the fixture certification process.
Samples are available for XLamp® XP-E2 LEDs and can be mass-produced to standard delivery times. The XLamp® XP-E2 LED has a color temperature of 2,700 K to 7,000 K and a minimum color rendering index of 70, 80, 85 and 90.
