A new generation of high-precision energy metering analog front-end comes out

Microchip Technology Inc., the world's leading provider of integrated solutions for integrated microcontrollers, mixed-signal, analog devices and flash memory, announces the introduction of a new generation of energy metering analog front end (AFE) products with industry-leading precision. The new MCP3913 and MCP3914 integrate 6 and 8 24-bit delta-sigma analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) with 94.5 dB SINAD, -106.5 dB THD and 112 dB SFDR for high-precision signal acquisition and more High performance end product. Among them, the MCP3914 adds an extra two ADCs, which increases the number of sensors that can be monitored by a single chip, helping to reduce product cost and design size. In addition, programmable data rates up to 125 ksps and multiple low-power modes allow designers to reduce power consumption by shrinking product size, or use higher data rates for advanced signal analysis such as calculating harmonic components. At the same time, the two AFEs also have CRC-16 checksum and register mapping latch function, which greatly improves the robustness of the product.

With the upgrade of the energy metering infrastructure worldwide, designers hope to develop a new generation of smart meters using AFE products with higher accuracy, performance and flexibility. Designers of advanced power monitoring systems have the same demand for AFE products, covering industrial and commercial markets such as server power and distribution equipment, uninterruptible power supplies, smart power strips, and data acquisition products. Microchip's new AFE products not only help designers improve the performance of their applications with industry-leading accuracy, but also optimize the energy consumption of different applications by flexibly adjusting data rates.

Bryan J. Liddiard, vice president of marketing for Microchip's Analog and Interface Products Division, said: "With these new AFE products, the design of high-precision energy metering systems for three-phase metering and multi-load monitoring will be extremely simple."

Development support

Microchip also introduced two new tools: the MCP3913 evaluation board (part number: ADM00522) and the MCP3914 evaluation board (part number: ADM00523) to support designers in developing new energy systems for AFE products.

Supply

Both the MCP3913 and MCP3914 AFE products are sampling and are in volume production, available in quantities of 5,000. Both AFEs are available in a 40-pin uQFN package, while the MCP3913 is also available in a 28-pin SSOP package.
