If the sales forecast of 9.8 million iPads in the first quarter of this year is correct, Apple's iPad sales will fall by 39.1% quarter-on-quarter and 20% lower than the same quarter last year. Apple sold 16.12 million iPads in the last quarter and sold 1,262 iPads in the first quarter of 2015.
Apple has sold less than 10 million ipads in six single-quarters, but only since June 2011. This is the third quarter of 2015, with iPad sales totaling 9.88 million units. The overall tablet market is facing the same decline, with total PC shipments in 2015 down 10.1% from 2014.
Apple iPad sales have fallen for eight consecutive quarters, in part because consumers are upgrading their tablets less frequently than smartphones. Apple canceled the iPad Air 3 release plan in October last year. Apple usually launches a new 9.7-inch tablet in the fall, but Apple only launched the big-screen iPad Pro last fall.
According to current rumors, Apple will release iPad Air 3 at the March 15 media event, together with iPad Pro and iPad mini4 to boost ipad sales.
