Ericsson and mobile communication companies complete 5G NR interoperability connection display

Ericsson and a number of mobile communication companies around the world completed the compliance with 3GPP standards and non-independent in Ericsson Laboratories, Kista, Sweden, in December 2017, and Qualcomm Research Laboratories in New Jersey, USA. 5G NR-based multi-factory interoperability demonstration. Leading vendors to participate in the show include Qualcomm Technologies, a subsidiary of Ericsson and Qualcomm, and carriers such as AT&T, NTT DOCOMO, Orange, SK Telecom, Sprint, Telstra, T-Mobile US, Verizon and Vodafone.

This successful demonstration demonstrates the joint efforts of various mobile communication companies to pave the way for the promotion of 5G-compliant commercial infrastructure and terminal equipment. At the same time, Ericsson's 5G NR pre-commercial base station and Qualcomm's 5G NR terminal equipment prototype will support global carriers to test on their respective networks.

Fredrik Jejdling, executive vice president and head of network business at Ericsson, said that the milestone was achieved thanks to Ericsson's years of research and development in 5G technology and the positive promotion of standardization. Through close cooperation with key partners, Ericsson will continue to conduct early trials and continuously improve the global product portfolio to ensure that customers are provided with standards-compliant technologies and create more opportunities for profit.

Christie Noam, executive vice president of Qualcomm Technology and president of QCT Group, said that this global 5G NR standard can achieve multi-factor interoperability testing and contribute to 3GPP standards. It is the concrete result of Qualcomm's long-term leadership in 5G development. And will help launch standards-compliant commercial networks and terminal equipment in 2019. Just as Qualcomm's efforts in the 3G and 4G eras, it is a pleasure to work with Ericsson to accelerate the global 5G layout.

The Interoperability Development Test (IODT) was conducted for low-level data connections operating in the 3.5 GHz and 28 GHz bands, which complete the standardized basic building blocks of 5G NR.

The non-independent 5G NR will leverage existing LTE wireless and evolved core networks as the backbone of mobile management and network coverage, while adding a new 5G NR wireless access carrier to support some 5G applications by 2019.
