On April 21, 2010, SAFC ®'s business unit SAFC Hitech ® announced that Philip Rose was appointed as the company's new president, replacing Barry Leese, who retired on April 1, 2010.
Philip Rose joined SAFC Hitech after 20 years at Rohm & Haas (acquired by Dow Chemical last year) and will be based at SAFC Hitech's Blackfriar, Massachusetts office. During his tenure at Rohm and Haas, he held a number of senior positions in R&D, marketing, operations and business development in the United States, South Korea and Japan.
Philip Rose previously worked in Seoul, South Korea, where he served as Global Marketing Director for Display Technologies at Dow Electronic Materials. Rose understands the challenges of the new role, but he also sees a lot of opportunities. He said: “SAFC Hitech has developed into a leading material supplier for the electronics industry. Although the global economy has been generally slow in 2009, the company performed well in the fourth quarter of 2009 and its long-term prospects remain optimistic. Our goal is to continue to develop. Chemicals, expertise, tools and methods that will drive the next generation of electronic products. We have a solid foundation to continue to develop leading materials and service combinations that drive customer technology advancement."
Barry Leese has a very good career and has been leading Epichem and SAFC Hitech for the past 27 years. Leese helped Epichem become a leading supplier of metalorganic, precursor and gas to the electronics industry. In early 2007, the company was acquired by Sigma-Aldrich and integrated into the SAFC Hitech business unit, and Leese was appointed president of the division.
